What is Khapli Atta?
At Regura, our story isn't just about selling flour; it is a story about reviving an ancient heritage grain. Khapli wheat, scientifically known as Emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccum), is one of the oldest cultivated wheat varieties in human history. It has been grown for thousands of years, valued for its resilience and distinctive character.
Why is it special?
Unlike the modern, high-yield dwarf wheat varieties you find in grocery stores today, Khapli is an ancient species. It is non-GMO, and its long, slender kernels are naturally wrapped in a tough husk (glume) that protects it from pests and disease.
Where is it grown?
To truly understand the quality of our Khapli, you must look at the soil. Our wheat is grown in the famous Regur black cotton soil of Vidarbha, Maharashtra. This deep, volcanic earth is naturally rich in iron, magnesium, lime, and alumina, creating a unique environment in which Khapli wheat has flourished for generations — an influence you can experience in the aroma, texture, and character of every roti.
How is it processed?
Modern steel roller mills use high heat during processing. At Regura, we use traditional slow stone chakki grinding. This low-heat process gently separates the bran while preserving the wheat's germ, keeping every grain of Regura Khapli Atta close to its natural state. It is then milled to order and delivered directly to your home — no middlemen, no stale stock.
